Fall 2019 ORC- Week 5

We were at a stall this week for our ORC. The breeze block that will be going above the doorway just shipped and is set to arrive Tuesday, and the place we were going to get the wood beams to frame the opening of the doorway closed earlier than we thought, so we weren’t able to get those either! But even though we didn’t get anything finished structurally, we focused on some of the finishing details like getting the giant mirror hung in the entryway, and the electrical finished and lights up. We were also able to build the console table that will go in the entryway, and I’m so happy with how it’s turning out! It’s put together, but we still need to sand and finish it.

Back story— I have been eyeing a console table from RH for the past couple of years, but could not bring myself to spend $1500 on it. My mom has a wood coffee table my grandpa made her that has a similar look and finish, so one day I decided to call him up and ask him where he found the beautiful wood. He told me it came from and old bridge off his property and he didn’t have anymore of it, but did have some other reclaimed wood planks he thought would give the same look. Only problem was, he lived in Oklahoma! They were planning on moving to Utah, but their house had still not sold, and I forgot all about it. Fast forward a few months and I got a call from him one day saying he packed those wood planks out here with him when they moved! I was so happy and even though it has sat in our garage for a bit, I couldn’t wait to make something beautiful with it. This was the RH console we used for inspiration:

After cutting the planks to the lengths we needed for the top and legs, we glued them together, let them sit for a few days, and then routedered grooves underneath what will be the top of the console for the plank legs to slide into. It’s all glued together now, and just waiting to be wire brushed and finished.

Here’s a sneak peak of the raw console against the brick entryway wall…we brought it in so we knew how high to hang that giant mirror (it was a STEAL by the way and I’ll share details in the reveal!).

We’re in the home stretch and I have to say I’m getting nervous about making it in time! I’m sure we can get the structural things finished, but the chair and settee I ordered back at the beginning of September for the living room have STILL not shipped! I’m being told they will ship Monday, so cross your fingers they get here in time please! To see how everyone is doing check here for updates. And I hope to see you next week for the reveal!
