Spring ORC Week 8- The Reveal!
Well guys, we did it! With the exception of 2 things on the to do list, our spare bedroom-turned laundry room is officially done. It’s been a doozy, especially this time of year with summer activities, kids sports, and the usual daily grind, but it’s SO nice to have a designated laundry room on our main floor. I’m planning to photograph this professionally (hopefully in the next couple of weeks), so will update this post with the photos, but for now here are some iPhone snaps of the space!
This is the view when you walk into the space:
We decided to do cabinet drawers below the washer and dryer instead of getting pedestals. There is a risk of water damage if the washer were to ever leak, but I love the built in look and ultimately decided to go for it! We left a little room above the washer and dryer in case we ever switch them out (some models are taller than ours).
We mounted an unlacquered brass rod between the cabinetry for drying clothes. I mentioned in an earlier post I was hesitant about choosing this or polished nickel to go with the faucet, but the unlacquered brass just looks so pretty with the grey/green cabinetry and I’m happy with the result!
On to THE SINK…I am so in love with the inlay look of the marble between the two butcher block slabs. I went with this polished nickel faucet from Waterworks, and I actually really love the contrast of the different metal to offset all the brass.
And the cafe curtain! This was totally improvised by looking at some of my drapes and using basic sewing knowledge. I chose to pinch pleat the tops, and ended up sewing eyes in the back of the fabric about 1/2” down from the top of the header so the rings could attach there and it would have that seamless look. The fabric needs trained a little but overall I’m pretty happy with them (I’m always happier when I don’t do the work, Ha!). Here’s a closer look shot from the top so you can see how the rings attach to the back of the header.
The lantern that came for this wall was not the right scale, so we didn’t end up installing it. The smaller size was out of stock with no estimated restock, so I ordered the larger size even though I thought it might be too big. I should have listened to my gut, but I am just going to keep it for my exterior! This window is awkwardly low, and I thought a black lantern above would be unique and coordinate so well with the black floor, but I just can’t find anything I love. I might order a roman shade and outside mount it above the window to trick the eye. Something I’ll chew on for a while before I pull the trigger!
Can I just say how much I love these hampers? The fit is perfect and they roll so smoothly! I think they are totally worth the money. I have only been using them for clean laundry since I don’t want the canvas to get dirty. My kids keep hampers in their own room anyways, so I’ve been having them bring their hampers down, and after washing I use the hampers to hold the laundry while I fold. Then I put all the clean clothes back in their hampers to return to their rooms. It’s been a nice little system so far.
The floors were such a pain to chisel by hand, but I love the old feel and look at all that texture!
The little cubbies have been a fun addition to the space. I was nervous about having too many open shelves, but I love to collect ceramics and baskets, so even though not everyone will see it, it still makes me happy to display things I enjoy. This little lamp I’ve had for a couple of years, and threw it on the countertop by the sink. I was short on styling time, so we’ll see how things ultimately end up as the room gets used!
And that’s it for now! Thank you for all the kind comments here and via Instagram. Please don’t forget to check here for all the reveals, there are some amazing spaces out there.
XO-
